Calculating Pump Size
A pump should circulate the pond’s water a minimum of once every two hours to provide sufficient filtration.
Pond Volume (Gallons) / 2 = Pump Size (in Gallons Per Hour)
Example: A 2200 gallon pond would need an 1100 GPH Pump to circulate the water once every two hours.
NOTE: If you are adding a waterfall and are only using one pump for the waterfall and filtration - you need a stronger pump than suggested above.
For a Waterfall and Filtration, we suggest the pump size should be at least 2 times the water volume (gallons)
Example: A 2200 gallon pond with a 2 foot waterfall should have at least a 4000 GPH pump to provide sufficient filtration and have a nice flow over the waterfall.
