Nursery School Children Create a
Butterfly Garden for Earth Day

(Huntingdon Valley): Children from Gloria Dei Preschool Discovery Center will be having fun with Nature on Earth Day this year. Florence D’Adamo, the director of the Preschool Program, contacted several local businesses requesting donations to update the children’s garden for Earth Day 2008. Sue Mihalchick, co-owner of Aquatic Connections, a water garden center in Trevose, volunteered to design a butterfly garden to be created by the children. The children’s garden is located outside of the Preschool’s playground and will be enjoyed by the children everyday. The hands on project will be supervised by Sue & George Mihalchick, who both have experience in working with students to create water features for schools. The kids will be divided into small groups and will help build a small rock retaining wall along the garden, help plant the butterfly friendly shrubs and perennials, and help mulch the garden. The plants, rocks and mulch have been donated by Aquatic Connections, along with several other garden centers and local businesses. Aquatic Connections has added a special surprise by donating a butterfly hibernation box.

The children will be participating in this special Earth Day Project on
Tuesday April 22nd from 9:30-11:00 am and on April 23rd from 9:30-11:00 am.

Gloria Dei Preschool Discovery Center is located at 570 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley PA 19006.
